1 Year of Puzzle Detective!

A year ago today, I drew a character inspired by Andrew Hussie's Problem Sleuth on my whiteboard. Some quick brainstorming with my friends later, and I had a name: Puzzle Detective. After that, I started a comic following Puzzle Detective investigating a murder, keeping it between myself and my friends until I decided to start posting the comic to the MS Paint Fan Adventures website.

I kept updating the comic daily until the fall, at which point I had to drop the comic for a bit-- and it just so happened that I had to make a narrative game in Twine for a game writing class I was taking. That led to this game, Hawk Foster, Puzzle Detective! A more focused, noir-styled take on the character and comic, telling a sort of prequel story to the events of the comic.

Today, in celebration of the comic's beginning, I "remastered" Hawk Foster, Puzzle Detective. Here's what's changed:

  • Improved writing - In a few places around the game, I rewrote some things for clarity and to strengthen it as much as I could.
  • A new UI - Goodbye, standard Twine Sugarcube UI! Hello-- well, hello to a very similar UI.
  • Bugfixes - Even though my fantastic group of QA testers (read: my friends) found most of the bugs before I put out the original game, the "remaster" features fixes to some more subtle bugs found throughout the several months since its first release.

Thanks for playing! And if you haven't played yet, thanks in advance! This isn't the end for Hawk Foster and Madison Laurent, so keep an eye out for whenever I get off my ass and make something new.
